Guthrie County Hospital Offers Free Medicare Assistance Through SHIIP Program
Helping Local Residents Navigate Medicare Open Enrollment with Confidence
GUTHRIE CENTER, Iowa — Guthrie County Hospital is proud to partner with the State of Iowa’s Senior Health Insurance Information Program (SHIIP) to offer free, objective, and confidential assistance to Medicare beneficiaries during Medicare Open Enrollment.
Open Enrollment is the time of year when individuals can review and make changes to their Medicare Part D (prescription drug) or Medicare Advantage (MA) plans. Comparing options each year ensures that participants receive the best coverage for their needs and budget. Open Enrollment runs from October 15 through December 7 each year.
Our SHIIP counselor at Guthrie County Hospital is available to:
- Explain Medicare options and benefits
- Assist with Part D and Medicare Advantage plan comparisons
- Identify potential cost savings
- Provide unbiased information—without selling or promoting insurance products
“This is an excellent opportunity for Medicare recipients to get personalized help understanding their options,” said Mary Wardyn, GCH SHIIP Counselor. “Our goal is to make sure Guthrie County residents feel confident and supported when making important decisions about their healthcare coverage.”

About SHIIP
The Senior Health Insurance Information Program (SHIIP) is a free, objective, and confidential service. SHIIP is offered through the Iowa Insurance Division. SHIIP offers one-on-one assistance, counseling, and education to Medicare beneficiaries, their families, and caregivers to help them make informed decisions about their care and benefits. SHIIP services support people with limited incomes, Medicare beneficiaries under the age of 65 with disabilities, and individuals who are dually eligible for Medicare and Medicaid.
Services are delivered through a state-wide network of trained and certified counselors who provide assistance in-person and by phone, make group presentations, and use a variety of media sources to educate people about Medicare.
